This article provides more information about Now phone lines, the features available and support.

Can I bring my current phone number to Now?

Yes, you can move to Now and bring your phone number to you.

Moving a number from one network provider to another is referred to as 'porting' or 'number portability'.  Moving your number to Now is simple but has a few prerequisites

  •  Your current number must be active with another provider. You don’t need to request disconnection from your current provider, and if you do, it may result in you losing your current number.

  • For fixed phone number porting, they must be in the same Local Calling Areas (LCA)

  • We’ll need the phone number, current provider, current provider account name and current provider account number

  • We’ll need the date you wish to transfer. Transfers cannot be cancelled on the due date, only up to midday on the day before.

If no date is specified, number porting usually takes 3 -4 business days from the time we receive the order. Our service team will co-ordinate with you the change so there is seamless cutover from your old provider to Now.

How do I set up and use Voicemail?

If you have voicemail, callers can leave you a message if you're on the phone or away from your office.

We don't enable voicemail by default, so please get in touch if you'd like to add this to your Now account on 0800 0800 669 249, or email us at nowbusiness@nownz.co.nz

Set up voicemail

From your Now landline, dial 081122. As we know that you're calling from your address, you won't have to enter your voicemail PIN.

If you're calling from your mobile, or another landline, still call 081122, however you'll be asked for both your landline number and PIN.

If you have forgotten or do not know your PIN, please get in touch with us and we can reset it for you.

How do I know if someone has left me a voicemail message?

Your phone will beep before you hear dialtone. This isn't a fault on your line, rather us letting you know to check your voice messages.

If your phone supports a message indicator, it may also display a voicemail light/message on the handset itself.

We will also send you an email with the voice message attached. If you do not want this feature enabled, let us know.

How do I call Now's voicemail from overseas?

Easy! Just dial +64 6 650 0000 instead of the national 081122 number.

How do I set up call forwarding?

Call forwarding allows you to forward calls from your landline to another phone number. This feature is useful as it means you can still receive calls to your home, even when you are out and about.

If you would like to take advantage of our call forwarding, please get in touch and we can enable it for you. You can call us on 0800 0800 669 249, or email us at nowbusiness@nownz.co.nz

How to use Call Divert:

First, dial our divert service on 081133 (or +64 6 650 0001 from overseas).

 Then, follow the voice prompts:

  •  Activate diversion

  • Deactivate the diversion

  • Confirm the diverted to number

  • Specify the diverted to phone number (including area code)

  • To activate dual diversion (enables a landline and a mobile number to ring simultaneously (mobile diversion charges apply)

  • To divert unanswered or busy calls only

How do I use 3-way calling?

3-way calling allows three parties on three different phone lines to join in on the same phone call.

If you have subscribed to 3-way calling, follow to following steps to connect a 3-way call:

  1.  When you have the first call in place (either by answering it or dialling it and having it answered) press the flash or recall button to put the first call on hold, you will hearan engaged or standard dial tone.

  2. Dial the third party. When they answer, press the recall or flash button to connect the three parties. You can then all speak together.

  3. If the third party doesn’t answer, press flash or recall twice to return the call to the original call.

  4. To disconnect from a 3-way call, any party can hang up and the other two parties can carry on with the call.

Does Now have an Audioconferencing service?

Yes we do! You can set up an Audioconference on any Now phoneline.

  • Select option 2 to book a conference call

  • You will be given a 6 digit PIN number

  • Press 1 to confirm booking

  • Press 2 to repeat conference booking PIN number

  • The 6 digit PIN number is valid for one week, and can be used multiple times over that week. This means you can invite attendees to join a conference up to one week prior to the call.

 To join a conference:

  1. You will need to supply the callers with the free call access number, your assigned 6 digit PIN number, and the meeting start time / date. The attendees simply dial the access number and follow the prompts to join the conference.

Conference charges:

The conference call is $5.00 + GST per booking to the Now customer booking the conference.

How do I use call waiting?

If you have call waiting on your line, check out the steps below on how to use it.

Answer the waiting call: Hookflash + 2

Toggle between calls: Hookflash + 2

Drop the active call: Hookflash + 1

Merge calls (3-way): Hookflash + 3

If you are on your phone and can't hear incoming calls, get in touch to ensure we've added call waiting to your line.

How do I restrict my number from showing on caller display?

To restrict your number appearing on the display of the called party, simply enter 0197 then the number when you dial. So, when calling 027 251234 you would dial 0197027251234 in one number string.

Why can't I call certain numbers (ie 0900)?

When we set up a phoneline for the first time, we usually block 0900 calls by default unless your business requests them not to be. We do this to prevent unwanted charges to your Now account.

In some cases, lines will be set up with other types of called barred such as call to international or premium numbers.

If you'd like barring removed from a line, ask the person with account authority for your business to get in touch and we can easily remove this bar for you.

Why is there no dial tone on my phone?

There are a number of reasons why dial tone may not be present on your phone line:

  1.  Do you have an internet connection? Chances are, if there is a line fault, both your internet and phone will be down. Try to load a few websites to test. If the internet doesn't work, you may need to give us a call to investigate further.

  2. If you have a cordless phone connected directly into your fibre ONT check the following:

    Is the cordless handset charged?

Is the cordless base station powered – when the base station is not powered you will lose dial tone?

Is the cordless base station securely connected to the fibre ONT’s telephone (POTs) port?

  3. Is the power on to the fibre ONT?

  4. If your desk phone is plugged into the premise wiring which is then in urn wired into the fibre ONT check the following:

Does the desk phone have power – if a powered phone has no power you will lose dial tone?

Is desk phone connected to a phone jack and is the premise wiring securely connected to the fibre ONT’s telephone (POTs) port?

  5. Is the power on to the fibre ONT?

If you’ve checked all these things, then the problem may be at our end. Please contact us to troubleshoot your issue.
